October Favourites

October is over! I love October. I love the changing colours, the coolness (although that one day of snow wasn't cool) and a new season. I say I would always love to move to a place without seasons but then as soon as the next one comes I realize how much I love them.

It's been forever since I've done a monthly favourites soooo in no particular order, here they are!

Birthdays!


This handsome boy turned two this October! I sadly didn't get a picture with him (still trying to force my love on him, have to keep working). His smile kills me every time. He is a charmer through and through. It's also the month we are getting to hear his sweet voice a little more. Apparently 'Hi Katie!" is his current phrase. It amazes me how much those two kids love each other.


Saying YES to the Dress!


Nope, not me saying yes, my sister! Technically this only happened on the 31st of October but it was so exciting! So happy I got to be there to share the moment. Bring it on August 13th, the bride is going to be a stunner!

My Boys



Technically they are my favourites all the time but this picture is too adorable not to share am I right? Another part of this picture that I am absolutely in love with is the fact that I don't have one ounce of makeup on, I remember when I asked Luke to grab my phone and snap the pic (I was driving) how disappointed I was that I wouldn't be able to share what a sweet picture because I didn't have any makeup on! Immediately pissed at myself. As soon as we got home I posted without over analyzing every flaw I had. Considering I'm 26 and a half years old, it's time to stop worrying about the ridiculous things.

Long Weekends


We had a long weekend for Thanksgiving this month and this lady was LOVING it! It was also her brothers birthday party and any chance to celebrate is a great one in her books!

This one is kind of a cheat since I've only had it for less then two weeks but I think I have finally found my perfect planner. I have been on the hunt for years now. I even splurged for the Erin Condren Life Planner but sadly that wasn't for me. I love that each day gets its own page. Not that I am this crazy person with a zillion things to do each day, but I'm definitely a lister. I multi task every single thing I do. My supervisor will sometimes pick on me if I am only working on one thing at a time. I find myself so much more productive when everything is going at once so lists are HUGE to me! I work in a place where I can be in the middle of my three different things, and then two people walk up and need me to do something asap so jotting down what's needed is a huge necessity.

This stuff is amazing. I made it for our latest housewarming gift and it was a hit! I'm not a huge whiskey fan (especially Fireball) but holy crap I could have drank the whole thing! On a side note, I am loving the Tasty Facebook page in general.

The Lively Show

I've been all over podcasts lately and I somehow stumbled upon Jess Lively's podcast The Lively Show. There are so many things I love about this girl. Not only does she have amazing guests on her show every week but the way she produces the show amazes me. She's so professional, the quality is amazing, and the way she conducts her interviews is so great. I can't stand when someone is interviewing another and they are constantly putting their own input in the entire show. I feel like Jess knows what questions to ask and then just hands the floor over to the guest so you get the maximum exposure to them. I definitely look forward to this show every week.

Happy Birthday Grampie

I look forward to flipping my calendar to the next page every month. I love a fresh start, new month, new week, new season. I'm all in. This morning I flipped my calendar to November. I love this design! I found this calendar on clearance last year and have been in love with every month more than the last, it will be a sad day when it's all used up!


Today, November 1st, 2015 my grandfather would have been 89 years old. He passed away this year so when I was writing all the dates in at the beginning of the year I had written his birthday in. There was a part of me that knew he probably wouldn't make it, but I wasn't sure. 


Grampie had been sick for awhile so it was one of those deaths that was still really sad, but also in a weird way kind of nice. He's not suffering anymore, he's free. I'm not a religious person and I sure as hell don't know what happens after you die but I like to think he's on a farm somewhere tending to the horses or growing a huge garden, bigger then the one he had in Kilmuir!

There are little things in life that will always remind me of Grampie. He used to have this license plate on his old truck with horses on it. I saw it the other day at the grocery store and it took my breath away for a minute. When I say old, I mean really old! It was a nice reminder.

I can't eat a carrot or tomato without thinking of him either. It's the strangest thing! He had this amazing garden when I was little (I was pretty little so it could have been tiny, but in my mind it was HUGE!) and any time I slept over we would go out, pick carrots and tomatoes, bring them to the sink in the garage, rinse them, and eat them right there. I was blown away the first time I saw him eat a tomato like an apple!

I sadly don't have any pictures of us at my house but I know that there is one of me and him walking out to the back yard holding hands. It's one of my all time favourite pictures and I will find it before the end of the month!

So, where ever you are Grampie, know that I'm thinking of you, I love you, and happy birthday.

Life After an Exam

You may or may not know that I am currently working towards my Accounting Designation. Trying to get a couple more letters added to the end of my name and hopefully make more money.

Currently I'm in a phase of studying my ass off for a couple weeks, writing an exam, waiting a couple weeks for the results, and then doing it all over again. To say it is an emotional rollercoaster would be an understatement! When I write I have two solid weeks of waiting for the results. It's amazing the difference feelings you can have in just those two short weeks of waiting.

Phase 1: Devastation 
I always instantly feel like I've failed. That I just wasted weeks of school work and two vacation days of exam prep. This phase ALWAYS involves a delicious Caesar.

Phase 2: Exhaustion
My exams go from 9am - 1pm. My caeser drinking goes from around 1:05pm - 2:30pm. Then I crash. Not only does my brain shut off but my body shuts down.

Me. In a nutshell.
Phase 3: Hope
When I finally get over my tiredness I can finally think about what the results might be, and this is the time when I get hope. That maybe just maybe I finally passed this one!

Phase 4: Laziness (currently)
Oh man I cannot get over this laziness! No joke, I on season four of Scandal. I started it the day I wrote (one and a half weeks ago). I'm pretty sure Lukas thinks I have a problem.

Phase 5: The End
Finally! The day I've been waiting for! Results. Ugh. They come out at noon time and it is a BRUTAL wait. My results come Friday so pretty please cross your fingers for me!

TV Must Watch - Scandal

Have you heard of the latest faze - Netflix and Chill? All the cool kids are doing it. Except this chick. When I want to Netflix and chill I literally want to get on my couch, grab some blankets and a snack, and binge watch my latest obsession - Scandal.

I cannot get enough of Olivia Pope!!! She is so stunningly brilliant. I love a strong female lead. She's the true definition of a #GirlBoss and I love it. I started Saturday and am halfway through season two. In my defense, season one only had like eight episodes so that's not that bad right?

Runner's High

Back in the day (aka two years ago?) I took up running and I was hooked! Unfortunately I have a short attention span and usually move on from one obsession to the next pretty quickly. Something I always try and commit to though is the Corporate Marathon Relay that happens every year in October. I've made it two of of the last three years which isn't the best track record but not the worst either!

Why is it that running is so hard to commit to? For some reason, putting on my running clothes and tying my sneakers is the hardest feat for me. Once I get out there though I'm hooked. I definitely experience that infamous runner's high. If you have any motivational tips to get off my ass and start the run please provide! Or come live with me and force me to go for a run.

This weekend I participated again in the relay marathon and wanted to take a second and capture the memory. Not too much to say (thankfully I had a small leg!) but some highlights:
- It was hailing, yup HAIL. In October. Brutal.
- There was two teams from my office and we beat the other team by 1:22 which made it that much more exciting! A little friendly competition never hurt.
- I had to race for my leg. By some strange luck, the person running the same leg as mine from the other team and I, we started our leg together. Talk about pressure! He beat me by a couple steps. So frustrating but I didn't stop once and that was my goal!

My Favourite Place - Part 1

I'm falling more in love with our house every day. I keep finding new things that are my favourite! I haven't shared many pictures of it yet so I thought I would share a couple pictures here.
Full disclosure: I clean in batches, these areas of the house are what I happened to tidy this morning, many more pictures to come!

This is what you see as soon as you walk in. Doesn't look like much but it's a couple of my favourite things I get to see right before I leave and as soon as I walk in. The flowers are from the wedding of our two best friends, the wine is from our (first) house warming party and the picture is from a really great day Lou and I spent with family.


This may just be my favourite part of the whole house! I have lived with MANY painful kitchens so getting my dream one was UNREAL. Yup, there's still dishes in the sink and things on the far counter but you get the gist. This is real life, my mom's house is the only one that looks like it's out of a magazine. One of the traits I forgot to pick up from her!


Call me crazy but an actual 'grown up' lamp (if that's such a thing) is not something I have ever owned! First of all, these things are expensive (thank you lovely people for gift cards!!), secondly... actually there is no second thing. I'm cheap.

I love this little corner of our living room (more pictures to come there too, so much cat hair).


This is what I like to call the Kitty Cat Corner. Yes, it's the dogs space too but let's be real. The cat is the master of us all. He's currently laying between me and the computer as I type threatening to dig his nails in if I stop nuzzling him. He really is lovely.

It's kind of a wasted space in the kitchen but it works perfectly for holding Smudge and Sully's food, treats and general junk they have.


My favourite spot in the Kitty Cat Corner (I'm dead serious this is what I call it every time I reference this part of the house. Which is surprisingly a lot...) is the new runner my mom made for Smudge's food. I was nervous he would scratch the surface every time his 20 lbs jumped up there so when I saw mom had some extra of this material around I knew it would be perfect! Thank you mom!

Just put it on yesterday so the cat hair hasn't managed to embed itself in there yet!


That's it for now! There will be more parts to this series as I get better pictures together. I've said it a million times before but buying a house is STRESSFUL and it couldn't have been done without the crazy support we've had from family! You guys are the best!

Bored of my intro yet? I would be... okay! Here's what I'm loving this week!

1. My dad. He's one of the smartest, kindest people I know. I feel like we haven't been as close as we used to be. Until lately. He's one of my favourite people in the whole entire world and I think there comes a certain point where you start looking at your parents as people and not just parents. I thought I was already there but lately I feel like I am completely there. Not to mention he has become super hip and growing an unreal beard!


2. My brand new house! I mentioned in my last post that Lukas and I have recently purchased our very first house together. To say I am obsessed with it would be a HUGE understatement! I'm working on a blog post so I can get some pictures up soon!

3. Season finales. Hey! I said it could be a big thing or a little thing! I think the last 7 days have been full of finales. Masterchef, America's Got Talent, and tonight Big Brother, all my favourite summer shows have wrapped up!

7 years

Today Lukas and I are celebrating 7 years together! It's been pretty crazy to just sit down and think about of the things we've done and accomplished together in the last 7 years so I knew I had to record them!

Here are 7 of my favourite happenings from the last 7 years.

1. Together, we've lived in 3 apartments, 6 houses.

2. We expanded the family with a (now fat) cat.



3. Together, we have gotten 3 degrees and are working on a fourth.

4. We expanded again with the most spoiled pup in the world!


5. We have one ridiculously sweet niece, and three adorable nephews!

6. We bought our very first house!



7. I found my best friend in the whole entire world who I can be entirely myself around. Even the crazy parts :)

Cheers to us Louie! I love you more then words could ever say, thank you for being my best friend.

5 Minute Friday - Introduction

Okay, I am stepping WAY out of my comfort zone!! I did a few vlogs/videos a couple years ago and it definitely takes awhile to get back into it! This was super awkward and hard to film so if I'm a rambly weirdo, forgive me :)

I want to start a new series! I am trying my hardest to pay more attention to this little blog and I think sitting down for 5 minutes a week is the easiest thing to do! Please let me know what else you would like me to talk about in next weeks video!

New Blog Design!

Did you notice it looks a little different around here :)

I am SO IN LOVE with this new blog design! The different colours scream my name but I went with a watercolour theme so it wasn't too much colour (although the more the better in my opinion!).

A special shout out to TheBlogShop for creating such affordable, easy to install, blog designs. I had such a hard time picking one but I am so happy with the one I've chosen. And the total was $18. C'mon, you cannot beat that!

Her instructions were super simple to follow. If you've never uploaded your own blog design, this kind should definitely be your first! Seriously, there is no way you can mess it up.

5 Clean Eating Kitchen Staples

As you may or may not know I am trying my absolute best to get into clean eating. So far so good! My body thanks me so much for filling it full of deliciousness! I've been trying to narrow down a list of staples I like to always have on hand to share with you.


1. Coconut Oil/Extra Virgin Olive Oil

We've all heard a million times over the benefits of coconut oil BUT did you know it is actually delicious!? AND if you aren't a coconut fan, you can get oil that doesn't have any coconut taste. Weird I know. I've had a couple of my friends try it and they agree with me, no coconut taste at all!


The one of the left doesn't taste like coconuts at all. I can't explain it but it's true! The middle one is delicious and coconutty, my favourite for sure. I do find that you can get a little sick of the coconut taste though so I like to buy the one on the left in times like that.

I like to use olive oil when I need a higher heat or if I don't want the coconut taste to take over the meal.

2. Plain Greek Yogurt

I am such a creature of habit. When I find something I love that's easy, I stick to it. So every single weekday morning around 10:30 am I get out a bowl of Greek yogurt and whatever fruit I'm loving at the moment. Currently grapes halved are my new favourite! Strawberries, bananas, blueberries, anything makes it delicious!

Plain Greek yogurt is filled with good stuff, especially protein. The stuff I eat (Liberte 0%) has 18g of protein per serving! If you're not a huge fan, put frozen berries in the night before, by the time you are ready to eat they have gotten all melty, juicy and delicious!

3. Bananas

Bananas are so versatile! They are one of the easiest snacks to have on hand. They come in their own packaging for goodness sakes! I love throwing them in my chocolate shakes but I especially love making pancakes! Yup pancakes made from 1/2 a banana and one egg. Can't get easier then that. 4. Taco/Fajita Seasoning

I have been trying to use as many different seasonings as possible. Who knew there were so many tastes out there!

I've been making my own seasoning to put on ground chicken or turkey. Perfect for taco night, pizza meat, or taco salad.


5. Peanut/Almond Butter

This is the bomb.com. No joke this stuff is awesome! I made them both homemade, so simple. Just throw some peanuts/almonds in a food processor and blend until smooth! I added a teaspoon of coconut oil in the almond butter and I swear it's like snacking on cookie dough. Perfect way to ease your sweet tooth without feeling guilty about it!

2 Ingredient Pancakes - Clean Eating

Looking for the perfect pancakes to kick off your weekend? I look forward to these bad boys every weekend! I could get up to have them during the week but I like my sleep. I'm working on that!



If you're expecting a long post, you won't get it here, these are just too simple! All you need is half a banana and one egg. Seriously, that's it! For added flavour, throw in some cinnamon, so good!

These are my version of the Perfect Pancakes.


If you do plan on topping them with fruit, throw the berries on the skillet at the very end. It will not only warm them up, but it releases the juice and make them so much tastier!

mid mid life crisis

ever have a mid mid life crisis? yes you read that right, no typo. I'm only 25 and lately I have been questioning everything! I am working full time in the accounting field and studying full time to receive my CPA designation. it is a ridiculous amount of work and sacrifices and I don't even know if it's what I want to do with my life!

in university I started studying criminology in an arts school, didn't love it so moved to psychology. didn't love that so switched schools and started a kinesiology degree and lo and behold I wasn't a fan of that either! then I switched departments and settled for business. I figured what the hell I had tried everything else, it was the only one left!

I was decent at the accounting courses so I stuck with those. I struggled through university. like I mean struggled! who didn't prefer going downtown on Tuesday vs studying!?

so what did I do? sign up to get my accounting designation and now I don't know anymore! I feel like every couple of months when I am struggling with something and trying just isn't cutting it I want to quit. I hate to think of myself as a quitter but sometimes I seriously think I am! I hate that part of myself. thank god for Luke who is always supportive of all my crazy ideas. I have no idea how he doesn't roll his eyes when I tell him about my next endeavor.

so what the heck is this long winded complaining post about!? I've recently signed up to be a BeachBody coach! I know, it's crazy. I think so too! I even made a facebook group claiming to all my friends and family that I am a coach and then instantly freaked out a little. I mean I'm a quitter! I quit everything! but now I'm accountable to everyone I know plus complete strangers.

I feel like this is it. this is where I turn around my quitting streak and what I think will turn around my 'wanting to quit' feeling towards my designation. everytime I get into a workout routine I feel a million times better about every aspect of my life. my work improves, studying seems bearable, and my relationships do a 360. it's almost as if once I get a little bit healthier I fall in love with everyone in my life all over again. especially Lukas. maybe I'm feeling sentimental because v-day is coming up but we'll pretend its not!
