[real life] man's best friend

14 years ago lukas' two older brothers went away to university and to help lessen the blow they brought home the tiniest, brownest, cutest little puppy they could find!

this little guy is copper (also known as cop, bop, bopperoni, or burke).

luke's had 14 pretty amazing years with this little guy but unfortunately his time came and he had to be put down yesterday.

one of the hardest things ever.  I was devastated for lukas.  he emailed me around 11:30 and said his mom had called and that copper had had another seizure and that he should go out.

long story short he took him to the vet and they decided it was the best time to put him down.
something I am actually grateful for.  I was dreading the day that we would get a phone call that said cop ran away (which sometimes dogs do to be alone) or that he had a really bad night and didn't make it through.

I can't decide who is cuter in this picture.
I'm just grateful that luke got to go out to his parents, hang out with him for a bit, and be the one to hold his paw when he was being put down.

I wished so bad that I could have been there.  I was ready to leave work and race home but luke said a million times that it was okay and that he just wanted it to be him and cop together which I totally understand.  still heartbreaking.

I just wanted to take a moment and remind everybody to love your furbabies a little extra today.  and love your better halves a little tighter too.

rest in peace burke, you will be missed.

What a sweet pup!
I'm so sorry you all have to go through this. He sounds like he was truly loved.
I'm dreading the day I have to put my Cosmo down.
Glad he's in a place where he's not hurting anymore :)
*Hugs*

Awww what a sweet little guy! It's so hard to lose the ones we love, and pets are no exception. I can't imagine not having my fur babies running around everywhere! My thoughts are with you all.

So sorry he had to be put down, but it sounds like he had a great life & was truly loved. So many furbabies don't even get that chance.

Thinking of you both!

Aw, this is so heartbreaking. Im sending huge hugs Luke's way.

We had to put down our puppy of a few days like 4 yrs ago because of Parvo & I still cry over it if I think about it too long. Go buy him lots of ice cream & give him whatever he wants in the sack; it wont fix his sadness but it'll take his mind off it for a bit.
