Liebster Award!

yay! Yesi has nominated me for the Liebster award and I couldn't be more honoured and excited!  go check out her blog to see who else she nominated!

so I have heard of the Liebster award but I didn't really know what it was so I'll explain a little..

the Rules:
1. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.

2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you, and then create 11 new questions for the bloggers you pass the award to.

3. Choose 11 bloggers (with less than 200 followers) to pass the award to and link them in your post.

4. Go to their page and tell them about the award.

5. No tag backs!

11 Random Facts:

1. I hate when people touch my neck.
2. I could live in sweat pants and uggs.
3. I hate commuting to work but getting to see my family every day makes it worth it.
4. I never wanted to be that girl who NEEDED her boyfriend, and it took me a really long time to admit it to myself, but I do.  I couldn't imagine life without him.
5. I want to travel but I'm totally not a risk taker.
6. I'm scared to start a new job.
7. I hate my blog design.
8. I'm addicted to TV.
9. I could eat my dad's chicken dinner every day for the rest of my life.
10. I need a cup of coffee every day.
11. I love wine.

Yesi's Questions:

1. If you could pick your dream job, what would it be? Why?
well I'm hoping it is going to be the job I just got!  but I think that my ultimate job would be running my own company.  something crafty and creative.  something where I design and/or make the products.
2. What is your favorite song at this very moment?
we are never ever getting back together by Taylor Swift.  love Taylor but I especially love this song because every time it comes on the radio my sister and I belt it out like crazy people.
3. What would you like for Christmas?
hair extensions.  but I don't know if I will be able to wait that long for them.  might have to get them as an early present for myself.  I can't really think of anything else.  yarn, or gift certificates, or money!
4. (I really liked this question so I am including it.) 3. What blog(s) or blogger(s) inspire you?
well, obviously the ones that I nominate!  but I think the first blog I read and instantly fell in love with was Linny's Vault.  she's freaking hilarious and right from the start I felt like she gave a shit about my comments or tweets I sent her.  she never responded with the generic 'thanks for the comment!' but actually had something legit to say.
Tamara is also another of my faves.  she's so down to earth and again I felt like I was talking to a real person!
Clare and Katrin are more inspirations for sure.  Clare is so cute and makes me want to cook/eat/try new things and Katrin is just a sweetheart!  always has the nicest things to say!
5. What is your favorite season? Why?
summer through and through.  I live on an island so being 5 minutes from a beach at all times is pretty amazing, especially when it's 30 degrees out.
6. Who is your favorite (Hottest) actor that you are in love with now? Or Actress?
hmm.  love Ian Somerhalder or Paul Wesley.  dreamy.
7. Why did you begin blogging?
I've been reading blogs and watching YouTube videos for as long as I can remember and I've always wanted to have my own blog or channel and since I'm too much of a chicken to go in front of a camera every day I figured this would be a good direction!
8. If you can travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
south.  I want to go to a resort somewheres and just lay on the beach for a week and drink and eat.
9. What is your favorite thing about yourself now?
I guess my hair?  I've been going to an actual hair dresser lately and have been putting bits of blond in it and am lovin it.
10. Who is your favorite Disney Character? Who is your least Favorite? Why?
growing up Goofy was my go to guy.  I bought a huge stuffed Goofy when we went on a family vacay to Disney land when I was little.
11. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
hopefully moving up the business chain at my new job! likely living in the city, hopefully with a couple for neices and nephews and maybe even a ring on my finger. who knows!

my Questions:

1. (Stealing from Yesi) what blog(s) or blogger(s) inspire you?
2. What's the oldest memory you can remember?
3. What is one of your fears and why?
4. If you could have one wish right now what would it be?
5. Do you have any (fur) babies and if so, lets see some pics!
6. What's your favourite holiday?
7. Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
8. Coffee or tea?
9. What is your favourite and least favourite thing about fall?
10. Who's the most famous person you ever met?
11. What's your favourite movie?

my Nominations:

11. Anna Lizbeth

high five for friday

I haven't done a post like this in too long!  joining the lovely Lauren for another edition of high five for friday :)

I got a new job! from the job description it sounds as though this actually might be my dream job! it's everything I've worked towards for with my degree and the money is a great bonus!
from the job description it sounds as though this might be right up my alley so here's hoping!

halloween is this weekend which means silly costumes, drinks, and a couple more drinks!  me and my friends are being a poker hand and the costumes turned out pretty decently.  we are not into the whole slutty this, sexy that, so it's just a white tee with felt on it.

I feel like I haven't seen Luke in forever.  I stayed at my sisters twice this week and when I was home he had hockey that evening.  going home tonight and even though he has hockey we are hanging out after and tomorrow night we are going out together so it will be nice to finally get some time in!

got a hair appointment after work this evening so now my work day is going to have to consist of scanning the net for hair ideas!  probably just get the same highlights as last time cuz I'm cool and creative like that.

it's pay day! I've been living off like 7 bucks and my visa since Monday so having some cashola is saweeet!

food bit... pumpkin spice muffins

This has to be my all time favourite October/Fall treat!  Pumpkin spice muffins with cream cheese frosting.  Halp.

Here's what you need:

  • 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp of ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp of ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 cup of butter (softened to room temp)
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 3/4 cup of canned pumpkin puree
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  In a bowl mix together flour, baking soda, spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves) and salt.

In another larger bowl cream together the butter and sugar until it is light and fluffy (this would have been a thousand times easier with a mixer)

One at a time add your eggs then add the vanilla.

Admire how much the pumpkin puree looks like a baby vomited up squash...

Then add a bit of the flour mixture to a bit of the pumpkin puree.  I did it in thirds (i.e. 1/3 of the flour, 1/3 cup of pumpkin back and forth).

Yes, that doesn't look very appealing but the smell is so yummy!

Pick out your most Fall ish cupcake liners.  Or realize the only ones you have look like they'd be perfect for Easter... and line your muffin tin (makes about 14 muffins if you put 1/4 cup in each).

Be sad about your lost comrade...

And pop in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean and they look like this!

Ice with cream cheese icing and enjoy!
(a sprinkle of toasted nuts or fun halloween candy on top would be cute too!)

Anyone have any pumpkin spiced coffee ideas?  I'm addicted to pumpkin spiced flavours after eating these bad boys.

the list - 4

Wanna know what I'm talking about?  Go here.

List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could.

1. Relax.  Life gets way more kick ass than this.

2. You know how much you hate being so lanky and grossly skinny.  Embrace that shit, you'll never be that skinny again.

3. Okay, this one is basically the same as Mal's.. Don't go to university just because you think that's what your supposed to do after high school.  Think about what you actually want to do with your life and do some research.  Or you're going to end up switching degrees and majors way too many times.. and still not end up where you're supposed to be.

4. Be nice to your mom!  Stop being such a sulk and taking your bullshit out on her.  She will end up being that person you get to confide in and who will be there for you more then anyone.

5. You will not find the love of your life in high school so stop having such high hopes.

6. Don't drink that entire Canadian Cooler.  I'm serious.  Just don't do it.

7. So, that party you threw eh.  Didn't go over too well.  If I could, I'd recommend you not that...
8. Just be there for your friends.  Ya they likely won't still be your friends in 7 years but this is the only time that you will have that many friends.  You'll be surprised who still are.

9. Stop being so insensitive towards her.  You have no idea what she is going through.  Swallow your pathetic pride and reach out to her before you lose 5 of what should have been amazing, life changing years as best friends.  And don't give her all the blame, you deserve most of it.

10. Play your heart out.  Don't blame your terrible coaches for your outcome.  Play every game like it's your last (ugh, talk about cliche...) because soon you'll be in university, gaining that beautiful freshman 15 (well, try 30) and being a lazy ass.

Check out Mal's list for my inspiration!

this weekend I...

it's time for another edition of this weekend I...

a very relaxing evening at home.  my friend Kate and her little girl came over for a nice little visit.  always so nice to hang out with them, her daughter is so cute and obsessed with Smudge so she's awesome to entertain herself.

then I did a little DIY project that was a semi fail so I'm not sure if I will upload it just yet.  I am going to make another one for sure and if it turns out better I will show you the steps.  I love it but it's nothing fantastic so I'm not too sure if it's blog worthy yet.

was cooking party day!  I slept in then went to town with Luke and got dropped off at my sisters.  we got ready together and made appetizers to take to the party.  she made roasted red pepper dip and I made bruschetta.  so delicious.

the party was a blast!  it was with 8 girls I work with and half brought apps and half brought wine to share.  then the host provided all the food for the main dish, sides and dessert and we all cooked it.  I definitely want to do it some evening with my friends, such a good idea!  we split into two groups and each made the same recipe.  and each group was divided up again into different steps.

the host was so cute, her house was decorated to the nines and she had a bunch of little prizes for stuff like best apron, first spilled drink, last person left without cursing etc.  so much fun!  I wish I had taken pics but totally forgot.  if I do it with my friends (although my kitchen is tiny) I will for sure take lots!
Luke picked me up in town and we went to his friends house an played cards against humanity. holy frig I want to own that game! I have apples to apples and its like that but way more dirty or something.

was a day of rest and relaxation.  slept in, then went to mom and dads for breaky with my niece then came back home for a nice couch nap with Smudge.

then went back into mom and dads for supper and a game of sequence. seriously one of my favourite games!

happy Monday!

best of... postsecret

every Sunday I go on to postsecret and I've shared a couple before so I wanted to show you my favs this week!

I love this one because its colourful and beautifully written but the message is so cute.

and seriously. how much more true could this be. yes, shitty, terrible things happen beyond your control (insert last post here...) but other then that, once you decide to be happy and love your life, you can.
hope you're all having a great weekend :)

real life.

So I'm from a small town right and you kind of know everyone in it and their kids.  This morning I found out that a 19 year old boy was killed last night while working on an oil rig.  And it's blowing my mind.  I just can't even imagine what that family is going through.  Ugh it makes me sick to my stomach.

I couldn't even fathom losing someone I love let alone one of my siblings.  I know at times like this people turn to their faith and take comfort knowing that they have a god or whatever but for me it shocks me that if there is this spirit looking down over us then why would they take away a child!  What's the reasoning?  And ya I'm a strong believer that everything happens for a reason but when something like this happens it takes all my might to try and figure out what possible reason there could be for destroying a life.  For making a poor family have to deal with this heartache for the rest of their lives.

And please believe me when I say I do not judge you or think it's silly to put all your faith into whatever god you believe in.  All I ask for in return is the same respect.  I think it's incredible that you have someone or thing to always have with you, to lean on when you can't stand alone anymore.  It makes me jealous.

I used to believe in god.  I grew up in a Christian household, went to church and religon (even taught religon for a year) and the whole nine yards.  Then one day I questioned it and everything I believed in and I guess I just never went back.  And like I said in a previous post, I have never really lost someone really close to me or have ever been through a tragic experience.  So maybe if (hopefully not) that ever happens I will need something to help me through it and I will turn back to god.

I'm rambling now but I just feel so heartbroken for that family.  The older sister of the boy was my own sister's best friend growing up so I know the family pretty well.  I babysat him and his younger sister a few times too.  The last time I saw him was at a party this summer and he was out celebrating his 19th birthday.  He was surrounded by his friends and was having an awesome night.  A part of me is glad that that is my last memory of him.  I will always remember his goofy smile, his arm around his girlfriend, laughing and being the center of the party that night.

Tell someone you love them today.  As soon as I found out I emailed by brother and told him to be safe at work, take care, and I loved him.  You should do the same.

guest posting! & Random Thursday

I'm blogging at Clare's today!  If you want to see how my Thanksgiving was go check it out :)

This is my first random thursday post but I love the topic so I had to join!

1. The clothing!  Sweaters and scarves are my best friends.  And tall boots, love.

2. Homemade pumpkin spice muffins.  Sooooo yummy and I am going to do a recipe post for these too!  Too delicious not to share.

3. Halloween.  My friends and I are planning on doing a group costume and we were thinking either playing cards (like a poker hand or something) or ninja turtles.  Thoughts?

4. I'm stealing both of these from Linny, fall scents (pumpkin anything, cinnamon types) and tv shows.  Everything is back on and I am PUMPED!  Anyone watching the Vampire Diaries?  Damon and Stefan ar back and they are just as beautiful.

Happy Thursday!!

food bit... chilli

Chilli time!  I've mentioned in my last couple of posts that I was going to share this chilli recipe with you and the time has come.  I wish I could take credit for this deliciousness but the recipe cred goes to my sister.

Here's what you need:

  • ground beef (I used medium because it was on sale but lean is healthier!)
  • onions
  • mushrooms
  • peppers
  • 1 large can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 can of accents (they come in different kinds, mine was
  • 1 package of Club House Chilli spice (I prefer original)
  • bacon and/or corn is optional

In a large pot start cooking the beef.

When the beef is almost cooked add in the onions and mushrooms (there are no exact measurements on this but I used 1 large package of mushrooms and 3 small onions)

While that's cooking chop up some peppers and admire their pretty colours...

After about 10 minutes when the beef is cooked through add the peppers. (Here is where you could add some cooked bacon too! So yummy!)

I let that sit for awhile.  In a jar mix together about 1 cup of water with the chilli spice.

Add the spice, diced tomatoes, and can of accents to the pot and let simmer! (with the lid on)

Basically the longer it simmers the better it tastes.  I also added corn to mine, so good.

It totally freaked me out that there wouldn't be enough juice in it but after about an hour this is what it looked like, plenty of juice!

I made my sister give me pretty much exact measurements but it's too hard to do that with chilli!  As long as you have a base (diced tomatoes) you can add whatever the hell you want.
I made it this weekend and added a lot more mushrooms, not as many onions, and more garlic salt then last time.  Was still fantastic!
I'm thinking of adding in shaved carrots next time.  Not a huge veggie fan but I need a way to incorporate them into my diet.

this weekend I...

Crocheted. A lot. Yup, that's 3 infinity scarves right there. I am going to buy more yarn on my lunch because they are so cute! And relatively easy to make. Lin pointed me to this pattern. The scarves come out almost fluffy and super soft. I'm going to make some for Christmas gifts but am also going to put some up in my etsy shop so I will let you know when I get an ad up!

Moving on, Friday a friend had a bunch of us girls over for delicious Halloween treats and pumpkin carving! I was soooo tired but was so happy I went, we had a blast!

I slept over at my sisters Friday with my other sister and we got up with Katie in the morning which is always fun. The dogs were super hyper and Rollie was so excited to hang out he ended up sitting on me.

Saturday was one of the wildest nights ever! I sat home alone, made a huge pot of chilli, crocheted, drank a bottle of wine, and watched Scrubs. It was actually exactly what I wanted/needed!

I promise the recipe is coming!
Sunday I went to my sisters for breakfast, parents for supper and lounged on the couch watching more Scrubs and crocheting in between. Overall a very lazy weekend!
How was your weekend??

10 on tuesday

I want to start freezer cooking.  My sister is kind of just getting in to it and us along with a couple other girls at work have started bringing in lunches for each other.  But I never have time in the evenings and I'm a lazy ass come 6 pm.  I'd prefer to giver once a week or so and make a bunch of stuff that lasts awhile.  Any recipe suggestions that freeze well?

I made chilli yesterday and it was to die for!! Even my dad liked it, and he's picky.  Although he did say less peppers and more meat would be good but I thought it was perfect.  Like how good does that look?  Recipe to follow!

I found a new blog the other day by Kristin and she mentioned how she links up so much but that she hopes her readers don't think she's not being personal enough.  Same goes for me.  Ya I love link ups mainly because it gives me a start to my blog post but I honestly put a lot of effort into everything I write.  And I honestly I do write a lot of personal stuff, this place is kind of like an online diary although I may slightly tame it because my mommy reads it :)  Anyways I hope you don't think all the link ups are too much!  Thoughts on link ups, yay or nay?

I was at my sisters the other night after she put this little fart to bed who decided to get up an hour later. Best part though, she's full of cuddles this time of night!  And since she is constantly on the go, any cuddle is an awesome cuddle.

It's a 4 day work week!  And that's amazing right now.  After the long weekend having to travel to work again is killing me.  I am kind of wishing that I had just moved so the commute to work would be 5 minutes instead of 65 but I can't go back in time and I can't move right now.  And I do love being at home in the evenings.  Being 5 minutes from my niece, getting to have my parents over for dinner, etc.  But man I hate adding almost 3 hours onto my work day.
Leave home at 7, get to work for 8:15, finish work at 4, home at 5:45 (at the earliest).  And I totally know I'm being a complete sulk over this.  I was the one that chose it but still I'm allowed to complain sometimes!

Speaking of the commute, I'm extremely grateful to have someone who drives me to and from work everyday for only 6 bucks a day.  However, there is really no need to have full on, in depth conversations first thing in the morning OR first thing after a long day at work.  I get the need to be friendly, I do, I'm a very friendly person, ask my mom.  But sometimes I just want to ask him to just shut up for a minute, I haven't even had my coffee yet, k?

It was Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend!  I'm hungry just looking at that food.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I'm blogging about it over on Clare's blog this week!  You'll have to keep checking throughout the week, not sure what day mine will be up.  Who would have thought I would ever be guest blogging! So honoured.

This happened last night.  I bought Smudge this toy hoping he would get an ounce of exercise from it. He usually just lays on it or sprawls beside it occasionally hitting the ball.  So Luke got down and tried to show him how to play and they just ended up in a staring contest.

I miss the internet so freakin bad its pathetic.  The only good part about my carpool giving me 30 minutes of free time after work is that my building has free internet.  But really between packing up my crap at the end of the day and walking to the parking garage I maybe get 15-20 mins of internet.  That is not nearly enough.  And my laptop feels like it weighs a thousand pounds when I have my purse and my lunch to carry so I'm wondering if it's worth it.
